If you’re trying to achieve something, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it. ~Michael Jordan.
Sometimes it’s hard to keep pushing. Giving up and remaining in your current situation appears easier than putting in all of the extra time required to get to the end. You’re tired and frustrated ready for the mission to be accomplished today.
It doesn’t help that some people don’t really understand why you’re so motivated, but you know deep down inside that once this is done…life will in fact be so much better. You’ll have that better job, more income, a successful business, the promotion, a savings account, a better home, your own home, less stress, etc.
With all of the obstacles that arise though, it makes you wonder if it’s all worth it. I’ve been there. The doubt that speaks is loud, but it should never be allowed to stagnate progress. After it says it’s piece, your determination must be allowed to rebut.
But how?
I constantly remind myself of these two things:
- Anything in life worth having is worth working for. ~Andrew Carnegie
- Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant. ~Robert Louis Stevenson
See each day as you rise and you’re continually working towards your goal, be grateful for the progress. It may seem small, but it’s progress nonetheless. Six months to one year from now, you’ll be able to see how far you’ve come. So one way or another, you’ve got to find a way to stick it out. I’m sure you won’t be happy with yourself for giving up. That only leads to thoughts of regret.
Now if your focus has changed, that’s a different story. But if your dreams are still intact and you’re just experiencing a few hardships here and there, you’ve got to talk yourself into staying the course….literally.
I’ve heard that we believe more of what we hear ourselves say than anybody else. If that’s the case, then this should be easy, right? Write down some encouragement that you can read (out loud) when you feel you need a little fuel.
You may appear to be a little strange to some, but who cares about their opinion anyway. It’s exactly what it is, their opinion, and it should have no reflection upon you or your life.
Keep reminding yourself what you’re working towards and surround yourself with people who encourage you to stay focused. Naysayers are no longer welcome in your space.
It’s full speed ahead. In the end, it’ll be worth it. Right?
